According to Sky journalist Patrick Berger, a Chelsea player has now reached a personal agreement on a possible transfer this month.
He said on Twitter that Ian Maatsen and Borussia Dortmund had reached an agreement on everything, and he is now waiting for the two teams to finalize a deal.
Maatsen is reportedly one of the players the team is willing to let go of this month in order to better balance the budget heading into 2024.
They might need to make some sells before they can add more quality to their roster after going on another extravagant spending spree in the summer and signing players like Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku.
Maatsen felt he had a chance to make the first team after a successful preseason campaign, so he chose to wait it out even though the Blues accepted a bid for him in the last hours of the summer transfer window from Burnley.
He has only made one league start for the team under Mauricio Pochettino, so this has obviously not happened.
Maatsen and Borussia Dortmund reach an agreement
Chelsea is still not happy with the terms, but Berger has now stated that personal arrangements have been agreed upon between the player and Dortmund over a possible transfer.
“Ian Maatsen has told Chelsea that he still wants to go to Dortmund,” he stated. Information from Sky indicates that the left-back is in agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
“Everything is contingent upon the Blues, who genuinely seek a purchase obligation. There are still talks going on.
Given the current injury crisis at left back, it has been surprise that Pochettino has not opted to use the 21-year-old more often in that position this season.
Rather, he has determined that center-back Levi Colwill has been a superior choice to play out wide.
