Josh-Kofi Acheampong announced yesterday on his official club website that he had signed his first-ever professional deal with Chelsea.
Acheampong, who is only 17 years old, has been a member of the club since the Under-8 division.
This season, the highly-regarded defender is representing Chelsea’s Under-18 team; nevertheless, he has occasionally been called up to the Under-21 squad to participate in games.
Acheampong posted on Instagram to commemorate the signing of his Chelsea contract.
Blues first-team standout Noni Madueke, 21, responded in the comments area with a single, enthusiastic phrase.
Josh-Kofi Acheampong agrees to a deal with Chelsea
There’s something about Chelsea’s recent success in developing outstanding right-backs.
Reece James, the captain of the Blues club, was raised in Cobham and is considered one of the best full-backs in the world when healthy.
Tariq Lamptey of Brighton and Tino Livramento of Newcastle United are two other outstanding right-backs who have roots in Chelsea’s academy.
After he signed a new contract with Chelsea, 17-year-old Acheampong will be closely watched by us. Hopefully, he’s just another gifted right-back with a bright future.
Last month, Acheampong was photographed at first-team training for Chelsea. When an academy player is good enough, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has already shown that he would use them.
