Manchester United is interested in Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen as they look to strengthen their weak defense.
Fichajes.net claims that Premier League teams are pursuing three of Barça’s stars in an attempt to capitalize on their financial difficulties.
“The Danish center-back, who has shown outstanding performance since his arrival at Barcelona, is an object of desire for Manchester United and Tottenham,” the Spanish publication claims.
The Dane has had a great start to his career at the Catalan club, playing for the Blaugrana 50 times since his summer 2022 arrival.
The Danish international’s prior Chelsea experience is also seen to “make him a top-class addition” for anyone in the league.
Although there isn’t much of a connection between United and Christensen, the two have been brought up previously.
The Red Devils were reportedly willing to pay up to €70 million for the defender back in May.
Furthermore, United would “target Barcelona center-back next summer with the Catalan giants open to selling the Dane due to their economic worries,” according to a September report from The Peoples Person.
Both of the stories were attributed to Fichajes, who is now hammering home the point that United intends to exploit Barcelona’s terrible financial position in order to complete a deal for the former Premier League player.
According to the report, “Premier League clubs are ready to seize the opportunity to bolster their ranks with talent from Camp Nou, while FC Barcelona face difficult decisions and could see significant changes to its squad due to financial pressures” during the summer transfer window.
United obviously needs to add defensive players, but given the club’s financial difficulties with Fair Play, this may have to wait until the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have also been connected to other defenders, such Jean-Clair Todibo, and a deal for the Frenchman appears to be under wraps, particularly in light of Tottenham bailing out of a deal for the Nice defender and the links to new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Indeed, it’s said that United is in “pole position” to sign the youthful center back.
However, with the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Raphael Varane and other center backs, it is likely that the Red Devils will attempt to add more than one defender to strengthen the struggling backfield.
