Michael Golding, a 17-year-old from Chelsea, is one of the new generation of talent to come through Cobham’s youth ranks.
The center midfielder was named in Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday lineup for yesterday’s FA Cup third-round match against Preston at home, which they ultimately won 4-0. But the home team at Stamford Bridge didn’t establish any rhythm until the second half.

After making his senior debut in Chelsea colors late in the game, Golding will always remember that day.

Surprisingly, the adolescent English player wasted a chance to make his debut goal inside the penalty area with a shoddy attempt.

Still, let’s hope 2024 brings more from the acclaimed academy alumnus!
To commemorate his first-ever appearance for Chelsea’s first team, Golding posted a picture to Instagram.

The 17-year-old is an adaptable midfielder who enjoys attacking and has played for England at the U18 level.

In addition to Golding making his debut, academy graduate Levi Colwill led Chelsea out against Preston while donning the captain’s armband. The sheer number of moves under this specific ownership has many supporters worried that the door from the academy to the first team squad may be closing, but Pochettino is the proper person in the manager’s dugout to keep that alive.
