After former Oregon cornerback Trikweze Bridges, former Tulane safety DJ Douglas, and class of 2024 Alabama cornerback signee Jameer Grimsley, Turner has moved to Florida.
The Gators secondary, which finished the 2023 season with two rookie first-team players in safeties Jordan Castell and Bryce Thornton, lost three multi-year starting contributors to the portal this offseason in Jalen Kimber, Jaydon Hill, and Miguel Mitchell. The trio of veteran defensive backs brings a combined 58 starts and 125 appearances to the field.
Turner, a Carlsbad, California native and consensus four-star talent for the class of 2019, is responsible for 28 of the earned starts, which go all the way back to his Huskies freshman season. Will Harris, the new Florida secondary coach who oversaw Washington’s defensive backs in primary and assistant position coaching duties from 2018 to 21, was in charge of 13 of their first-team appearances. Broken bones in both hands restricted Turner’s most recent season, keeping him out of Weeks 3-6 and 9-13. After Washington defeated Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship game, he was back in the starting lineup for the team’s 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship run, in which the Huskies, ranked second, lost to Michigan, ranked first.
