Opening Day is just about here and somehow some of the top free agents still are available. Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery still haven’t signed new deals yet and at this rate may not be ready for Opening Day. There’s still no indication that a deal is imminent despite being the top players remaining in free agency. The New York Yankees have been linked to Snell on countless occasions and that will continue to be the case until he signs elsewhere. He was looking for a massive, long-term deal and even got offered one by the Yankees, but rejected it.

Snell was looking for a larger deal at the time and New York pivoted to Marcus Stroman. The two-time Cy Young Award winner seems to have softened his asking price, though. The lefty reportedly now is open to a short-term deal with opt-outs, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. “Star free agent Jordan Montgomery still seeks a long deal while reigning (National League) Cy Young winner Blake Snell is fine doing a short-term deal with opt-outs,” Heyman said.
