Meanwhile, the defense has got some solid young talent to build around, though they could use more help in just about every area.

The Vikings did manage to bring back a staple on their roster, though, as they restructured Harrison Smith’s contract to bring him back for his 13th season with the team.

Smith has been one of the most consistent safeties in the league and him returning is a huge boost to Minnesota’s defense.

Former Viking Adam Thielen recently expressed how much he appreciated being able to play with Smith and how he is excited for him to stay with the franchise, per the Star Tribune via @VikingzFanPage on Twitter.

“I’m so happy for him,” Thielen said. “He is the staple of #Vikings football. Being able to play with him for 10 years you understand why: the impact he makes with his teammates, the community, the way he approaches the game and the way he changes the game and the way he’s still doing it.

Thielen saw firsthand the kind of impact he can have on and off the field and Minnesota did right by him to bring him back for another year.

While the Vikings might struggle in 2024, having Smith around should ease the transition and give the team some optimism that they’re building toward a better future.
