2 teens charged in sexual assault during University of Michigan football game

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 13-year-old boy and 19-year-old man have been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman late last year during a University of Michigan football game.

Jarrell Childs, 19, was arraigned Friday, April 12, on charges of first-degree sexual assault, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, stealing a financial transaction device and larceny. Childs, of Detroit, is facing up to life in prison.

A juvenile petition, a charging document for children, for the same offenses was submitted for 13-year-old boy, according to Chris Page, spokesperson for the Ann Arbor police.

Childs and the 13-year-old allegedly sexually assaulted a 39-year-old woman around 10 p.m. on Nov. 4 as she walked back to her vehicle on the golf course of Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club, 400 E. Stadium Boulevard.
The woman, not from Michigan, had been returning to the car to get warmer clothes, said Patricia Reiser, assistant prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County during the arraignment hearing.
Childs and the 13-year-old stole the woman’s watch and credit cards and allegedly strangled her during the assault, Reiser said.

The attack occurred during the University of Michigan football game against Purdue during the second and third quarter, Ann Arbor police noted in a previous request to the public for information about the incident.

The attack was random as neither the boy nor man knew the woman, police said. Charging Childs was delayed because he had to be identified using DNA evidence, Reiser said.

Childs is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $75,000 bond. He is next set to appear in court on April 25.

The 13-year-old is at the Washtenaw County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.
