Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is among the original players that have helped turn the Lions franchise around in such a short amount of time and he’s doing his best to keep the band together.
Quarterback Jared Goff’s deal is up after the end of the 2024 season, and he revealed that he has started talking with the team about an extension.
“There have been discussions, but I’ll leave it at that,” Goff said, via Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.
Goff is a big reason why. Over the past two years, he has thrown for 9,013 yards, 59 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
His price tag has risen as a result, but Detroit must do whatever it takes to keep him. According to Spotrac, Goff is expected to receive a four-year, $149.85 million deal ($37.4M per year).
That number is still nowhere near the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. So, if the Lions can bring him back on a similar deal, it’s safe to say St. Brown will be ecstatic.
“He’s accurate, he commands the offense, all the stuff you want in a quarterback,” St. Brown added.
St. Brown is also due for a new contract, but he wants to make sure his quarterback is locked in for many years to come first.
