Toon management is prepared to offer a “special” player over £100,000 a week to sign…

Newcastle United have taken a giant step towards securing a deal for one of their summer transfer targets.

The Magpies are already working incredibly hard behind the scenes to improve Eddie Howe‘s squad ahead of next season, despite the 2023/24 campaign not coming to an end. Newcastle United have four games left, and are aiming to qualify for Europe.

As this season has shown, Newcastle need a bit more depth, and that will certainly be the case if they are in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.

Newcastle United need to sign a centre-back

And one position they must address is centre-back.

That is because Newcastle only have two senior options in that position right now – Dan Burn and Fabian Schar.

Both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are suffering from ACL injuries, and could be out for the rest of 2024. That has increased the need for Newcastle to sign a centre-back, and they are working towards exactly that.

Lloyd Kelly has been heavily linked, with Newcastle favourites to sign him. The fact he is a free agent is very appealing to the Magpies, and that is also the case with Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 26-year-old Fulham centre-back is going to leave Craven Cottage, and is on Newcastle’s radar. In fact, Toon officials are making moves to ensure this deal goes through.

Newcastle in pole position to sign Tosin Adarabioyo

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are suddenly likely to sign Tosin on a free after holding positive talks in recent weeks.

They add that Toon officials have made an offer to Tosin, proposing a long-term deal worth more than £100,000-a-week.

That would make him one of the highest earners at St James’ Park, and sums up how becoming a free agent can allow you to earn even more money with your next move.

Those kind of wages are also a show of faith from Newcastle United, who clearly believe that Tosin can be a major hit on Tyneside.

‘Special’ Tosin can shine at St James’ Park

Hopefully that is the case, and he has all the attributes to be a success under Eddie Howe.

The former Manchester City defender has been called ‘special‘ in the past, while he is a brilliant passer of the ball. That is something that we already have in Fabian Schar, but there will come a time when the Switzerland international is not around.

He is 32 now, and Tosin could be his long-term replacement if he proves to be a star in black and white.

It would save the Magpies a lot of money if he can prove to be just that, while it will also allow the club to spend more money elsewhere this summer.

With profit and sustainability rules causing a problem, free transfers are incredibly appealing. And we appear to be closing in on one, with Tosin seemingly on course to join Newcastle United.

He could be followed by Lloyd Kelly, with the Northern Echo adding that the Magpies would like to sign both.
