Breaking News: Patrick Mahomes Leaving Kansas City For Dallas Cowboys Decision Made Today…

Brett Veach, Andy Reid, and the Kansas City Chiefs aggressively traded up in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Xavier Worthy with the intent that the former University of Texas star would add a game-breaking element to Patrick Mahomes‘ supporting cast.

While it has only been a few days of practice during the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp, Andy Reid is fired up about the chance to coach Worthy.

“I thought he did a nice job picking things up and working through — we asked him to do a whole lot of stuff there,” Reid told reporters following the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp. “He was put in most of the primary spots, so it was good for him to be able to get in there and move around a little bit.”

Worthy lands in Kansas City, and Mahomes’ supporting cast, after catching 197 passes for 2,755 yards with 26 touchdowns, while averaging 14 yards per reception during his collegiate career in Austin.

Worthy isn’t the first speedster that Reid has had the opportunity to coach throughout his career.

After the Chiefs landed Worthy, Reid revealed that he sees shades of former Philadelphia Eagles star DeSean Jackson, whom Reid also had a hand in drafting.

“[Hill and Worthy are] different, and he’ll put his own mark on things once he gets a feel for it,” Reid told reporters during the NFL Draft. “That wasn’t necessarily the comparison, as much as it was him being a good football player that was a good wide receiver. Now you add in there the return ability. I’ve had some guys like that Tyreek, DeSean Jackson — probably body type a little more like DeSean.”

During the first five seasons of Jackson’s career, playing in Reid’s offense with the Eagles, the dynamic wide receiver caught 274 passes for 4,785 yards with 23 touchdowns, while averaging a prolific 17.5 yards per reception.
