What has happened to the Atlanta Braves transactions from the previous offseason?
Throughout this past offseason, the Atlanta Braves were no stranger to making trades, as the club made a total of 10 over the span of two months, some of which were more notable than others. So, why not take a look back at this past offseason, and see what those same deals look like now?
Atlanta’s first trade of the 2023-24 offseason came back on November 16, 2023, where the Braves acquired veteran left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer from the Chicago White Sox for five different players. As for Bummer, the southpaw has made 13 relief appearances for Atlanta so far, where he owns a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA and 13:3 K:BB across 12 IP.
As for Chicago’s return, Soroka, who was likely the biggest name, has struggled so far this season as a member of the White Sox across eight starts. Over that stretch, the right-hander owns a 0-4 record with
In addition to Soroka, Chicago also received another MLB veteran in Lopez, who has appeared in 30 games with the White Sox so far this season. Lopez has also struggled, slashing .212/.291/.222 with two SB.
As for Chicago’s additional return, the White Sox received a trio of prospects, arguably the biggest of which was left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster. The former first round pick has split time between the major leagues and Triple-A so far this season, owning a 3.00 ERA and a 6:4 K:BB across 12 IP of relief in Chicago, as well as an 0-1 record, 6.39 ERA, and 9:3 K:BB across 12.2 IP (three starts) in Triple-A.
Shewmake, who was also a former first round pick, has appeared in 24 games with the White Sox so far in 2024, but has struggled slashing .138/.150/.224 with one HR, three RBI, and five SB. Rounding out the deal was Gowens, who is currently with High-A Winston-Salem in the White Sox organization, owning a 1-1 record with a 4.81 ERA and 27:11 K:BB across 24.1 IP (five starts).
