Leeds United Sign a new head coach Form Newcastle United….
Leeds United failed to secure promotion to the Premier League despite coming so close to achieving their target.
The Whites had a great run at the start of 2024 and even reached the top of the Championship, ahead of Leicester City. It seemed like they would certainly secure an automatic promotion.
It was a tight three-horse race, and Ipswich Town and Leicester City edged them after the Whites dramatically collapsed at the business end of the season. The route to the Premier League via play-offs never worked in favour of the Whites historically. Five times they attempted before, and ended up on the losing side.
History repeated once again as Southampton earned a slender 1-0 victory on Sunday at Wembley, leaving Leeds players and fans devastated at the final whistle. Daniel Farke rightly said that it will take time to recover, but bigger challenges lie ahead in the summer.
According to Phil Hay of The Athletic, Leeds skipper Liam Cooper will leave the club in a few weeks time following the expiry of his contract. The 32-year-old spent ten years at the club and made over 280 appearances in all competitions.
The 49ers have complete faith in Farke, so they gave him a four-year deal. He has shown great leadership until now, and the owners will back him again during the summer.
However, Leeds will be forced into selling certain players in the summer window to remain compliant with the profitability and sustainability rules. One of them could be Crysencio Summerville who is being targeted by Liverpool.
Furthermore, Farke is likely to sanction the departures of some of the players who are on loan elsewhere and do not feature in his long-term plans.
Leeds are unlikely to sign Joe Rodon permanently. The defender enjoyed arguably his best season in years since moving to Elland Road from Tottenham Hotspur. The Whites won’t be able to fund his move and may have to look for options elsewhere.
