Just In: To save money on the salary cap, the Rams will have to let go of three key players….
Any history of the greatest NFL defensive players without a strong focus on Aaron Donald is woefully incomplete and should be tossed in the rubbish bin.
The Super Bowl champion played 10 outstanding seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and brought a level of havoc to opposing offenses that few can lay claim to.
Now, Rams head coach Sean McVay tells Chris Long about when his defensive star came to him and told him that he was “full.”
As Long noted, Donald was the hungriest player he ever suited up with, and it is very respectable that he knew when it was time to hang up his cleats.
McVay heaped praise onto Donald for letting him in personally and forming “a relationship that I really cherished.”
The coach explained that he saw the veteran defender during his final season on the gridiron taking in moments and “really cherishing” what would be his final tour of the NFL as a player.
McVay even recounted an incident during his first season with the Rams that Donald showed up 30 seconds late for an 8 a.m. meeting.
The new coach was going to let him off the hook when he discovered that Donald had been using the bathroom, but the NFL star would have none of that and insisted on being held accountable.
Long responded to the amusing anecdote by asserting that it exemplified what Donald the player was all about, that he “does everything the right way.”
That way led to a Super Bowl championship, three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, being named First-Team All-Pro eight times and a well-earned position on the NFL 2010s All-Decade team.
