A technical error in their online store has left Lacoste with egg on their proverbial face as they appeared to jump the gun with a celebration of Novak Djokovic’s 25th Grand Slam singles title.
The company hasn’t lost count of Djokovic’s Major trophy wins but instead saw a commemorative tracksuit which has been in the works listed as being for sale to US customers.
Since the Serbian player quit his prior kit sponsor, Uniqlo, in 2017 to sign a multi-year contract with Lacoste, the two have collaborated on a number of projects.
Last year, the partnership was extended through 2025.
As an early celebration of the Serb’s 25th Grand Slam victory, Lacoste delivered a limited edition tracksuit, but the move backfired as the item was listed for sale early.
The $350 tracksuit is a fleece sweatsuit that comes with a hoodie, tracksuit bottoms, as well as an organic cotton fleece.
The piece of commemorative kit also has the number ‘25’ along with the renowned crocodile badges of Lacoste on the chest and the thighs. The release of the design implied that the Serb had already won his 25th Grand Slam which he hasn’t.
