Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. continued his impressive 2024 season on Monday.

The 24-year-old shortstop became the American League’s first player to reach 100 hits this season with a double to left field during the fifth inning of Monday night’s game between the Royals and Miami Marlins.

Witt’s 100th hit of the 2024 season makes him the fifth Royal to be the first player in the American League to reach 100 hits in a season. According to the Royals, he joins Lou Piniella (1972), George Brett (1976 and 1979), Willie Wilson (1980) and Whit Merrifield (2019) as Royals to be first to 100 hits.

The 24-year-old shortstop is one of the top contenders for the AL’s MVP race. He trails only the San Diego Padres’ Luis Arraez — who entered Monday with 104 hits — for most hits in the major leagues.
