Marseille close in on Mason Greenwood signing after hijack – sources…
Marseille have hijacked Lazio’s deal to sign Man United striker Mason Greenwood, sources have told Football Insider.
The Italian side had been closing in on a deal for the Englishman after being in talks with United over a £30million transfer, but Marseille have now taken pole position to sign him.
The Premier League giants had been holding out for a fee of £40million, and that opened the door for the French outfit to make a bid.
Sources say Marseille have submitted a contract offer to Greenwood, and a deal is now close to being made official.
Football Insider previously revealed that the 22-year-old has no future at Old Trafford, with the club wanting a permanent deal to sell him this summer.
Greenwood spent last season on loan at La Liga side Getafe, where he scored 10 goals in 36 games across all competitions.
The United striker will be out of contract with the 20-time champions next summer, making this window the final opportunity for the club to profit from him.
Despite his young age and controversial personal circumstances, Greenwood is a proven threat in front of goal.
