21-years old West Brom top striker officially confirms move to Sunderland in a stunning deal…

Summer transfer window activity has started to ramp up across the Championship but West Bromwich Albion are yet to really sink their teeth into it.

With Carlos Corberan at the helm and the financial backing of new owner Shilen Patel, Baggies fans will be dreaming of the best heading into next season.

Their 2023/24 campaign was a good one, reaching the play-off semi-final amid some off-field constraints.

Because of what the Spaniard was able to do with that crop of players, the idea of him being able to put together a very competitive squad on paper makes for a daunting prospect for other promotion hopefuls.

The makings of that team that supporters hope are back in the Premier League by this time next year hasn’t fully come together yet. They’ve brought in three players – Ousmane Diakite, Torbjørn Heggem, and Joe Wildsmith – but none of them have been really eye-catching moves.

But just one domino falling is all it takes to get everything into gear and get fans really excited about what’s to come. These two things happening, if they do come to fruition this week, would symbolise the real start of West Brom’s summer endeavours.

The one area that the Baggies really fell short last season was in front of goal. Players across the team chipped in with goals here and there, but they had no out-and-out talisman who could lead them further up the table.

Injuries to Josh Maja and Daryl Dike, and inconsistency from Brandon Thomas-Asante, really emphasised West Brom’s need for more reinforcements up top. The only team in the top eight to score fewer goals than West Brom last season were Hull City.

He’s not a striker, as such, but they did try and get Josh Windass before he re-signed with Sheffield Wednesday. He has since stated that a big sales pitch from Danny Röhl was a factor in him staying.

If a really promising forward arrives at the Hawthorns this week, that would make Albion’s start to their summer transfer proceedings feel a lot more encouraging.
