The Melbourne Storm have announced that they’ve granted coaching co-ordinator and incoming Eels coach Jason Ryles an early release from his contract in order to focus on his new job.

Ryles was last week announced as Parramatta’s coach from 2025 on a four-year deal, winning a two-horse race against Josh Hannay for the vacant gig.

Ryles will finish up with the Storm at the end of this week according to the club.

“On behalf of everyone at the Melbourne Storm, we congratulate Jason on his appointment to senior coach at the Eels,” Storm CEO Justin Rodski said via a club-issued statement.

“Given the significance of this opportunity for Jason, we have agreed an early release is in the best interest of both parties.

“Jason returned to Storm for the 2024 season, and although only back at the club for a short time, he has had an immediate positive impact on our players, football department and broader club.

“Jason is a quality person and coach, we thank him for his contribution in 2024 and wish him, his wife Alana and his family all the best for the future.”

Veteran journalist Phil Rothfield signalled on NRL360 during the week that Ryles would be granted an early release from the Storm to begin overhauling the struggling Eels roster.

“He’s now employed by another club to plan for next year,” Rothfield said.

“If you’re working for another employer, you’ve got to go.”
