Pedro Porro Showdown and Trent ‘snubs’ an imaginary transfer to West Brom…

One of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer is reaching its climax, with Milan and Tottenham Hotspur reducing the gap in their valuation of Emerson Royal. Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the Brazilian’s future claims there’s only €3m difference between the fee offered and Spurs’ demands.

In today’s football, it looks like a minor figure. However, new Milan bosses have proved notoriously cheap. But considering the difference was north of €10m when the sides first met in June, this is a positive development from the Rossoneri’s point of view.

Milan can always call upon the fullback’s desire to join Paulo Fonseca’s charges. Emerson is currently in Japan with the rest of the Tottenham squad, preparing for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against reigning J1 League holders Vissel Kobe in Tokyo. However, he’s already made clear that he wants out.

Emerson struggled for regular first-team opportunities in West London last season. Pedro Porro was Ange Postecoglou’s first option at right-back, forcing the former Barcelona defender to reconsider his future. Once Milan came knocking on his door, he no longer had any doubt.

Indeed, Emerson and Milan agreed on personal terms almost two months ago. But convincing Tottenham to green-light the move has proved rather tricky. Spurs are open to selling the 25-year-old, though they’re unwilling to drop below the €20m mark. Perhaps the inclusion of some bonuses could help Milan overcome the gap.
