Khanyisa Mayo has joined Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad from the Premier Soccer League outfit Cape Town City.
The South Africa international has been a target for Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, but it is the North Africans who won the race.
The 25-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Algerians.
Mayo has been a hit at the Citizens in recent seasons notably the 2022/23 season when he scored 12 goals and provided two assists to finish as the PSL’s top scorer alongside Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile.
In the 2023/24 season, Mayo played 31 games for his team across all competitions and scored 11 goals with two assists on his name.
He now joins Elias Mokwana who recently joined another North African side, Tunisia’s Esperance.
The Bafana Bafana forward has no option but to ensure he delivers for his new team across all competitions.
He might make his debut in a pre-season friendly game against Al Khaldiya SC in Turkey on Thursday. The game against MES Refsanjan, scheduled for Saturday, August 3, might be too soon for him.
