families died after crashing their car into a tree which caused a building in Old Louisville to catch on fire.

John Bradley, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded to the area of 2nd and Oak streets just before 6:30 p.m.

Police found a vehicle and a tree on fire. The fire then spread to a building but police said no one died from the building fire.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling east on Oak in the westbound lanes at a high rate of speed and crashed into a parked car and a tree.

The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene but it’s unknown at this time if they were the only person inside the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was destroyed by the fire and the engine is blocking the passenger side and will have to be removed.
