Liverpool fan was tragically killed on after he was hit by a car in Milan, according to reports.

Reports from Italian outlets Il Corriere della Sera and La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the fan, 51, was struck by an SUV at 1am while crossing the A4 highway near the Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo.

Reports claim he had flown in from Manchester and arrived in Italy just before midnight.

The fan attempted to cross the highway to reach the NH Hotel. He reportedly made it across three lanes before he was hit by a car.

In a tragic twist, the outlets claim the fan had a ticket for Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Milan at the San Siro in his pocket along with his passport at the time of death.

Il Corriere della Serra also reported a father and a son were seen with the victim but opted not to cross the highway.

The report claims the pair are working with police following the tragic incident.

Police are also investigating if the fan was ‘in an altered psychophysical state that may have influenced his actions’.

The tragedy occurred less than 24 hours before Liverpool’s first match of the Champions League against AC Milan at the San Siro.

It will be the fifth Champions League meeting between the two, with their most famous encounter being the 2005 final in Istanbul when Liverpool came back from 3-0 down to win on penalties.

The teams met in the Champions League final once again just two years later as Milan exacted revenge with a 2-1 victory.

Liverpool and Milan were also drawn in the same group during the 2021/22 Champions League, with the Reds winning both encounters.

Arne Slot’s side go into their Champions League opener on the back of their first defeat of the Premier League season after Anthony Elanga’s strike handed Nottingham Forest a shock win at Anfield last Saturday.
