Ange Postecoglou will have felt the pressure heading into this one after defeat in the North London derby last time out.

Tottenham managed to scrape through to the next round of the Carabao Cup by the skin of their teeth, as a late Brennan Johnson goal secured the victory.

The Lilywhites dominated the game but were caught on the counter-attack on occasions, which has been typical of their season so far.

One positive was the fact that Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray looked promising in their displays, but Wilson Odobert‘s injury will have left a sour taste in Postecoglou’s mouth.

And, the performance of one player in particular certainly won’t have pleased Ange Postecoglou…

Timo Werner drops a stinker display vs Coventry City

Timo Werner rejoined Spurs on a season-long loan back in the summer transfer window, and that already appears to be a mistake.

The German has just 38 minutes to his name in the Premier League, with zero contributions in that time.

He played 74 minutes for the Lilywhites last night before being substituted due to what appeared to be a slight injury.

During this time, he won just one of his five duels, lost possession of the ball 14 times, and failed with every cross and dribble he attempted.

And, if that wasn’t bad enough, to top it all off, Fraser Forster had 57 touches, and he had 47.

It comes as no surprise that Andy Townsend is shocked that Postecoglou brought Werner to Spurs this summer.

Alasdair Gold’s player rating for Timo Werner

Alasdair Gold posted his player ratings on Football London for the clash shortly after the game, and it’s safe to say that he wasn’t impressed with the German either.

He gave Werner a 2/10 for his performance, which was the lowest rating of any player.

Gold had this to say.

“He made a good sliding block in his own box before the half-hour mark. Going forward, though, he was dreadful and offered nothing. He went off injured in the second half, and had Spurs played on with 10 men, his absence probably wouldn’t have been noticed.
