In a tragic incident involving Mary’s Chicken, a poultry worker drowned in a waste pit at one of their facilities. This heartbreaking event occurred in September 2024 at the company’s processing plant in Kansas City. The worker, identified as 35-year-old John Doe, was reportedly performing routine maintenance when the accident happened.

According to initial reports, the waste pit, which is used to collect and process waste materials from the poultry processing line, was not properly secured at the time of the incident. The worker was attempting to clear a blockage when he fell into the pit. The pit, filled with a mixture of water, feathers, and other waste materials, created a dangerous and hazardous environment.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene quickly but unfortunately could not save the worker. The conditions within the waste pit made it extremely difficult to retrieve him in a timely manner. The area around the pit was reportedly slippery, and the accumulation of waste created a significant risk of entrapment.

Mary’s Chicken has since launched an internal investigation into the incident, focusing on safety protocols and maintenance procedures. Preliminary findings suggest that there may have been lapses in following proper safety measures and protocols, which could have contributed to the accident.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is also conducting an investigation to determine whether any violations occurred and to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company has expressed deep condolences to the worker’s family and is committed to improving safety measures to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again.
