With just four days until spring training begins in Florida , the Yankees are left without a head. On Wednesday, it was reported that the organization’s manager, Aaron Boone , has left the organization on medical leave to receive a pacemaker.
Through a press release, the ‘Manhattan Mules’ reported that they were already aware of the surgical intervention, carried out in Tampa Bay, and added that the operation was carried out without incident.
Boone said he wants to return to Yankees practice as soon as possible and added that he has confidence in the organization’s coaching staff and players during his absence. Bench coach Carlos Mendoza will serve as Boone’s backup while he recovers .
Aaron Boone joined the Yankees to take charge of the sporting decisions in 2018 and during his tenure the team from the ‘Big Apple’ has a record of 236-148, three playoff appearances and an AL East pennant.
The reason for the operation
In a statement, the 47-year-old manager recalled that 12 years ago he had heart problems due to a congenital condition detected when he was attending university and with that history, in light of recent symptoms he consulted various doctors, who recommended the new surgery.
“As many of you know, I had open heart surgery in 2009 and I want everyone to understand the reasons for the surgery,” he explained. ” Over the past six to eight weeks I have had mild symptoms of lightheadedness, low energy and shortness of breath . As a result, I underwent multiple tests in New York prior to spring training , including multiple visits with a group of cardiologists. Although the tests were normal, there were signs of a slow heart rate and after consultation with doctors in Tampa, the pacemaker was determined.”
