Agustin Ramirez, a young catcher with promise, will return to Double-A Somerset to further his development, the organization announced. Beginning in Tampa the previous season, the 22-year-old worked his way up to Double-A at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. With Somerset, he played in 31 games and hit.211/.273/.313. He did, however, excel in the Hudson Valley, hitting.384/.430/.714, with nine home runs and twenty-three RBIs in just twenty-seven games.

Ramirez was to be given a chance to show off his skills against major league pitching on both sides of the ball by the Yankees. He hit.154/.214/.231 over eight spring training games with 42.9% strikeout rate and just one RBI. Obviously, Ramirez
Though Ramirez is already a strong defensive option behind the dish, and the Yankees definitely value him highly, manager Aaron Boone recently talked about the Yankees’ strength at catcher, which is uncommon among MLB teams. Boone specifically mentioned Carlos Narvaez, who was a solid defensive player who also had some respectable offensive moments. Since Austin Wells and Jose Treviño are expected to be the team’s two primary starters, Boone plans to continue developing a number of young players while also considering trading away assets for possible pitching acquisitions to bolster the bullpen.
