Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, is gone, but they will have a new hometown hero on the defensive end of the ball.

On Monday, March 11, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network announced that the linebacker Blake Cashman of the Houston Texans will be joining the Vikings on a three-year contract, bringing him back to his home state of Texas, where he played collegiate football and grew up.

“Homecoming: According to his agent @blakebaratz of @TeamIFA and @RapSheet, the #Vikings are signing LB Blake Cashman, a native of Minnesota, to a three-year contract worth up to $25.5 million,” Pelissero said. “Big deal for Eden Prairie native @blockayy, who played for the Gophers and is now a Viking.”

Cashman joined the New York Jets for his first three NFL seasons before moving to Houston in 2022. He started 13 out of the 14 games he played last year, solidifying his position as a starter. According to Pro Football Reference, the 27-year-old Cashman recorded 106 tackles, five pass breakups, two sacks, and an interception.

Due to his success, he received a pay raise and was assigned to Brian Flores’ defense, wearing purple and gold.
