The NFC North features some of the most historic rivalries in NFL history.
But thanks to free agency and some coincidence, several notable running backs have found themselves on both sides of rivalry games in recent years
The running back shuffle continued this week with several players finding new homes in places where they will play their former teams often.
It started early on Monday with former Lions running back D’Andre Swift signing a three-year deal worth $24.5 million with the rival Chicago Bears.
Detroit traded Swift, a second-round pick in 2020, to Philadelphia before last season and replaced him in part with former Bears running back David Montgomery, who remains in Detroit.
Green Bay also made news on Monday when it completely remade its running back room. AJ Dillon is a free agent, and the Packers released their longtime playmaker Aaron Jones.
They then signed two-time Pro Bowler Josh Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million deal, according to ESPN.
It didn’t take long for Jones to find a new home with the last of the NFC North’s teams, the Minnesota Vikings. According to NFL Network, Jones is expected to sign a one-year, $7 million deal.
The Vikings, who moved on from longtime star Dalvin Cook before last season, also released Alexander Mattison before free agency began.
So, there will be plenty of familiar faces across the division this fall, but fans will need to get used to seeing some of their one-time favorites in their rivals’ uniforms.
