The Philadelphia Phillies have kicked off the season in impressive fashion, boasting a solid 19-10 record and maintaining stride in the NL East race alongside the Atlanta Braves.
While much of the attention has rightfully been on their stellar pitching staff, a handful of position players have also made notable contributions.
One standout veteran who has truly elevated his game at the plate is third baseman Alec Bohm. His recent surge has ignited discussions about the possibility of a historic season if he can maintain his early momentum.
Recently highlighted by NBC Sports Philadelphia, Bohm’s hitting streak extended to 11 games, further bolstering his impressive stat line. With four more RBIs added to his tally on Saturday, he’s currently on pace for a remarkable 150 RBIs.
At 27 years old, Bohm is experiencing a breakout season, showcasing a batting average of .365 alongside four home runs and 26 RBIs. His impressive 1.056 OPS and improved plate discipline, evidenced by 14 walks compared to just 19 strikeouts, mark significant strides in his offensive game.
While Bohm has displayed offensive prowess in previous seasons, his OPS figures of .713 and .765 fell short due to low on-base percentages.
However, this year, he’s already surpassed those numbers in just 28 games, indicating substantial progress.
While it’s unlikely that Bohm will sustain a .365 batting average or reach the 150-RBI mark, maintaining a level of production that lands him around a .300 average with over 100 RBIs would mark a stellar season for the Phillies’ emerging star.
