Jamie Carragher claims that moments before Man City scored, a £42 million Tottenham player…
On Tuesday night, Tottenham Hotspur took on Manchester City in one of the most bizarre Premier League games in recent history, as far as fan reaction goes.
This was a game with a lot at stake for both Spurs and the Citizens in terms of their hopes for the season.
However, at the same time, there were some Tottenham fans that actively wanted their team to lose.
The reason was this: if Tottenham beat Manchester City, it would hand Arsenal the advantage in the Premier League title race.
Spurs played well on the night and were level with the Citizens at the break, but eventually the visitors broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.
Bernardo Silva threaded a pass towards Kevin De Bruyne, who got in ahead of Radu Dragusin and squared for Erling Haaland to slam home.
In the build-up to the goal, Cristian Romero lost a 50-50 with Phil Foden, which kept City’s attack alive and culminated in their goal.
Jamie Carragher was not impressed by what he saw from the £42million player, and criticised him on Sky Sports.
What has Jamie Carragher said about Tottenham defender Cristian Romero?
“When you look at that challenge with Romero,” Carragher said during the match. “He’s one of the toughest defenders around.
“I mean. to lose a 50/50 to Phil Foden, it’s unacceptable. Maybe his neighbour is an Arsenal fan!”
Later on in the game, Romero clattered into City goalkeeper Ederson as they challenged for a ball that had been crossed into the box.
