OL Chris Hubbard signs a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers…
With the addition of Chris Hubbard, the San Francisco 49ers have made strengthening their offensive line a priority this summer.
There were rumors circulating on Tuesday morning that the offensive lineman would be signing a $1.375 million, one-year contract with the 49ers. With quarterback Brock Purdy at the controls, SF now has another strong outside option, which is a priority.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network made the trade public on Tuesday, and a number of other media sources subsequently disseminated the information. The 49ers made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
After going undrafted in 2014, Chris Hubbard, 33, is on the verge of his eleventh season in the NFL. Prior to joining the 49ers, he played for the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He has experience playing all over the line of scrimmage in the NFL, mostly as a guard or tackle on the right side of the line.
Before being placed on injured reserve in 2023, the native of Georgia appeared in nine games for the Titans. Last season, Hubbard gave up four sacks and eighteen pressures. He has a 95.9 pass-blocking efficiency grade and a 69 Pro Football Focus score.
It remains to be seen what his exact role will be with the Red & Gold, with some expecting him to compete for the swing tackle role. That spot was held down by OL Jaylon Moore last season, struggling mightily however when called upon. 2024 will represent a chance to better that unit, with SF both drafting and adding reliable talent in the trenches.
