Good News: He’s Returning.

February 1, 2024, BIRMINGHAM, AL Held annually, the SEC Football Leadership Council will meet Friday and Saturday at the SEC offices in Birmingham. The council is made up of one football student-athlete from each of the 14 SEC universities.

Meetings with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, an examination of NCAA and SEC legislative matters, a discussion with SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O’Neal, and discussions with football officials regarding game regulations, interactions between student-athletes and referees, and careers in officiating are all on the group’s agenda for this coming weekend. The panel will also go over options for SEC student-athlete participation.

The SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council consists of three parts, one of which is the Football Leadership Council. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Councils make up the other two elements. Student-athletes have more opportunity to interact with university administrators and conference office staff through the Student-Athlete Leadership Councils for men’s and women’s basketball, football, and the conference’s long-standing Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Regarding matters pertaining to the student-athlete experience, wellness, and playing regulations, the councils act as a channel of communication between the conference office and the student-athletes.

The following student-athletes are members of the SEC Football Leadership Council: Hayes Hammond (Mississippi State), Kristian Williams (Missouri), Kai Kroeger (South Carolina), Omari Thomas (Tennessee), Taurean York (Texas A&M), Jalon Walker (Georgia), Eli Cox (Kentucky), Josh Williams (LSU), JJ Pegues (Ole Miss), DeVonta Smith (Alabama), Cameron Ball (Arkansas), Eugene Asante (Auburn), Derek Wingo (Florida), Jalon Walker (Georgia), Eli Cox (Kentucky), and Bryan Longwell (Vanderbilt).
