Sunderland Today chasing £5.3m West Brom and Napoli flop…
A very smart addition, and a player who I’m sure will play a key role for us during the 2024/2025 season.
At first glance, Browne appears to tick every box that we need: he’s got a wealth of experience at Championship level, he’s clearly got leadership credentials as a former captain of Preston and an internationally-capped player, and his record suggests that he’s a durable and reliable player who won’t be affected by injuries to any great degree.
It’s an open secret that we’ve needed an injection of experience and composure for quite some time, and I hope that Browne’s signing is the first of quite a few in a similar vein. Last season exposed some weaknesses within our squad, albeit ones that can certainly be rectified with the right signings this summer.
I do feel there’s some exceptional value to be found within the free agent market this summer, and Browne’s signing, although not necessarily representing a sea change in our recruitment policy, is evidence that the club are willing to step outside of their normal parameters and bring in players of a certain profile if everything fits into place.
I’m very happy with this one, and Browne’s quotes suggest that he’s up for the challenge at the Stadium of Light, and that wearing the red and white shirt is a responsibility he’s proud to take on.
